The typical way of communicating with email is the constant mail, reply and reply of the reply which can present a hideous task of getting the overview of what was talked about in that email “conversation”. And in the event of mass communication, the overview of the communication can be hideous, not to mention if the “conversation” is done over time, finding relevant emails can be a nag.

The most common scenario, where email conversation functionality can be an advantage, is when you for various reasons have not maintained your inbox for some time. When going through your inbox, you can choose to see your email correspondence in “conversation” mode, which gives you a structured and coherent view of the “mail conversation”, instead of the usual “first in first out” approach.

There are two ways to see the mail in “conversation” mode.

From the inbox a “twistie” will be shown on selected emails, whenever a email conversation is present together with the number of emails in that conversation, including drafts. Click the “twistie” to see the content of the conversation.

Your can change the way emails are shown in the folder, by selecting the Show panel at the top right hand of the mailbox, just beside the sidebar. When clicking this, you will get a drop down list from where you can select whether to view emails as Individual Messages or Conversation. When conversation is selected the folder will show emails in conversation mode and twistie will be shown on all emails if they are part of a conversation.

Emails that are part of a conversation does not need to be in the same folder to be shown, as long as they are in the mail database, they can be moved to any folder in that database and still be shown as part of the conversation.

This feature or way of looking at / working with emails will be significantly enhanced in the next version of Notes, Notes Social Edition.
